Senior Veterinary Surgeon

More about Caroline BVetMed MRCVS

I qualified from the Royal Veterinary College in 1998 and then spent 2 ½ years working in mixed animal practice in Pontefract before choosing to move across the Pennines to Lancashire and joining PetMedics in 2001, where I worked in all their practices and spent many years based at the emergency care centre.

I decided to open my own practice in order to provide the high standards of quality and care every pet and their owner deserves, and am proud to have had the opportunity to do so with my best friend and husband Lloyd Davies.

I have a strong interest in all aspects of veterinary care especially in dermatology, rabbit medicine and surgery, acupuncture, and chronic pain management in our pets.

I live with my husband, Lloyd Davies; son, Lewys; and our every expanding pet family (4 cats – Freddie, Bicky, Shift and Striper; dog Archie, and newly acquired tropical fish). Although we have no rabbits at the present time, Kay Waugh from Bunny Hop Rescue is trying hard to rectify the situation!

As a farmer’s son I have always had a strong interest in working with animals, and have wanted to be a vet since the age of 3.

I qualified from the Royal Veterinary College in 1998, where I met Caroline on the first Friday of the first week of the five year course.

I spent my first 7 years as a vet working in mixed (large and small animal) practices, before concentrating on small animal medicine and surgery. I then spent 5 years working nights in a dedicated emergency medicine practice before deciding to open my own practice with my wife Caroline.

I have a strong interest in all aspects of Veterinary Medicine and Surgery, and especially enjoy dermatology, as well as soft tissue and orthopaedic surgery.

I live with my wife, son and our mad pet family consisting of 4 cats, bonkers dog and tropical fish at this present time – but who knows who will be joining us in the future!

After graduating from Liverpool in 2010 I spent 18 months in mixed practice in the Lincolnshire Wolds before pursuing small animal work in East Lancashire for 3 years, then joining the My Pets Vets team at the start of 2015.

I enjoy all aspects of first opinion and emergency medicine, but have developed a keen interest in surgery and have recently been expanding my orthopaedic surgery skills. I also have a degree in Veterinary pathology, so I can often be found looking at samples under the microscope.

I am a volunteer vet for PAWS (Paxos Animal Welfare Society), based on the Greek Island of Paxos, which I try to visit annually to assist with the neutering of stray animals and provide on-island emergency treatment.

When I’m not working I can be found bouldering, rock climbing, hiking or travelling. At home I have an elderly cat called Kyle.

I have spent most of my life living in Glasgow, where I have been working with animals since I was 12 years old. My passion for medicine grew when I started volunteering at my local small animal practice at the age of 14.

Finally, after years of hard work, I graduated from Glasgow University as a vet in 2017.
After graduating I decided that I wanted to try somewhere different, so came exploring down to Manchester where I found my first official job in ‘My Pets Vets’.

Have absolutely loved it from the first moment I spent here with such a friendly and supportive team. I have never met such a vibrant, dedicated and caring group of people who I look forward to continuing to work with, doing our best for all of your pets!

I currently live just outside of Manchester with a friend and my old cat Gladis, who I couldn’t resist adopting after finding out she was alone and looking for a home when I moved here. I spend most of my free time seeing friends, watching films, going for walks and ‘attempting’ to visit the gym….

Will hopefully see you around the practice at some point!

I have lived in sunny Glasgow all my life and graduated from Glasgow University with a degree in Veterinary Medicine in 2015. Shortly after this I decided to up my roots and move to the North West of England for my first job in practice.

I have stayed here ever since and joined My Pets Vets in December 2017 where I am particularly enjoying pursuing my interests in small animal medicine and ultrasonography. I am currently undertaking a post graduate certificate in Small Animal Medicine which is both very interesting and rewarding.

I live with my Prestonian fiance, Craig and our three pets. We got engaged in Disney World in September 2018 and are enjoying planning our wedding although I’m doing most of the planning!

Together we have a very friendly but very energetic 8 month old Border Terrier named Matilda, a geriatric long-suffering cat named Muffin and our newest feline addition, Bramble.

Our Veterinary Nursing Team

“Veterinary nursing is the supportive care of animals receiving treatment within a veterinary practice. A veterinary nurse works as a member of the veterinary team, providing expert nursing care for sick animals.

Veterinary nurses also play a significant role in educating owners on maintaining the health of their pets. They carry out technical work and are skilled in undertaking a range of diagnostic tests, medical treatments and minor surgical procedures, under veterinary direction.”

I have been working in veterinary practice since 2010. I have worked in a variety of practices from first opinion through to emergency and referral hospitals. Having gained a wide range of experience I started working as a locum nurse at the beginning of 2018, which lead me here to My Pets Vets.

I was offered the position of Head Nurse in June 2018 which has provided me with a whole new challenge of both management and clinical nursing work. My favourite aspects of being a veterinary nurse are anaesthesia and surgical nursing, and being an in house clinical coach for trainee nurses.

Outside of work I have 2 old cats of my own, Eddie and Gizmo, who are both quite elderly.

After concentrating on running my own business and raising my two children for the past 10 years, I decided it was time to do something for myself. So in the July of 2015 I started off on a completely new career path by volunteering at MPV.

From day one of working at the practice I knew I’d made the right choice and after just a few weeks I was lucky enough to be offered the opportunity of becoming an SVN and started my training at ProCo in September 2015.

I absolutely love the time I spend with the patients and thanks to the help from my colleagues I am learning new skills every day.

All of the team at MPV are so supportive and I couldn’t be more grateful to Caroline and Lloyd for giving me this opportunity. I qualified as a RVN in 2018.

More about Aimee

From a young age I have always had a passion and love for animals and been brought up around dogs my whole life. I started off working for Willows Vets as a receptionist in 2012 when my journey into veterinary first began. In my spare time whilst doing this I volunteered for Cheshire Constabulary as a special constable.

Shortly after leaving Willows Vets in late 2013, as I wanted to be more hands on in treating animals I decided to do a course at Anrich Vets where I qualified as a dog groomer.

After qualifying I opened my own dog grooming business, Gibbo’s Grooming and worked in a bar at the night time as well as still volunteering with Cheshire Constabulary.

In January 2016, I decided I wanted to return to the veterinary industry again as I wanted to learn more about the medical side to treating animals. I got a job as a patient care assistant with Medivet where I worked for 2 years as a patient care assistant and quailed with City and Guilds as a Veterinary Care Assistant.

In late 2017, I visited Twist Lane surgery with my two French bulldogs, Franc and Pearl where I met Lloyd and mentioned that I wanted to pursue my career further and start my student nursing.
As a result I began working for the MPV family in February 2018 as a student veterinary nurse.

More about Kay

Caroline Purnell has been our familie’s vet for over 14 years; we are very much a multi-pet household, we have dogs, cats and rabbits and guinea pigs and would not let anybody else treat our pets.

Caroline always takes time to get to know the pet and its owner which is just a quality you don’t find very often. I started working for Caroline at My Pets Vets in 2012 and feel over that time I have built up great relations with many of our regular clients.

Outside of work I run Bunny Hop Rescue, a sanctuary where we care for a very large number of abandoned rabbits. Bunny Hop Rescue started in November 2001 when I got a phone call asking me to take in a rabbit whose owners had moved and left him behind with a few other rabbits, unfortunately this rabbit was the only survivor but needed ongoing treatment for teeth and eye problems. Then I seemed to get phone call after phone call for rabbits that had become unwanted or even mistreated, and that is when Bunny Hop Rescue began.
